Who is NRCS?
The Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) is the
federal agency
that works with landowners to conserve natural resources on private
lands. NRCS is part of the U.S. Department of
Agriculture. We were formerly called the Soil Conservation Service (SCS).
What does NRCS do?
The agency provides technical and financial assistance to conserve natural
resources. While much of the technical assistance helps farmers and ranchers
develop conservation systems uniquely suited to their land, the agency also
provides assistance to other private landowners and communities to reduce
erosion, conserve and protect water, and address other resource concerns. See
the Tennessee NRCS Technical
Resources and Tennessee NRCS Programs
web pages.
How do I participate in specific programs?
Visit the Tennessee NRCS Programs
web page and find more information about the specific program in which you want
to participate. If more information is needed visit the

How do I order a Soil Survey?
First, check to see the availability for your county from the
status maps. Then you can
order a
copy via email, phone or regular mail. There is no charge for soil surveys in Tennessee.
If there is not a soil survey available for your area, check with your local
library for a copy that may be out of publication.
Is there any digital soil data available?
Yes! Many counties are available through your web browser with
Web Soil Survey.
These data can be downloaded or viewed.
